A Chinese company will upgrade irrigation in the Bazar-Korgon district
As part of the ceremonial event dedicated to the launch of the large-scale modernization of the irrigation system "Kara-Unkur-Sai," the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic were present. Local authorities, investors, residents of the district, and specialists from the contracting organization China Road also participated in the event.

The project aims to completely update the water infrastructure, which is vital for the life of eight settlements. The work includes the reconstruction of 15 kilometers of the left bank main canal (a total of nearly 16 kilometers), as well as the construction of 13.5 kilometers of a new upper economic canal. The main goal of the upgrade is to increase the system's capacity, reduce water losses, and ensure stable irrigation for farmers.

The winner of the international tender for the execution of the work was China Road, with a contract amounting to 853 million 476 thousand soms. The completion of all work is scheduled for the end of December 2028.

After the project's completion, it is expected that the quality of water supply will significantly improve over 8,225 hectares of irrigated land. More than 114,000 residents of Bazar-Korgon, as well as the settlements of Saidikum and Akman, will feel the positive impact of the modernization. This project will be an important step towards strengthening food security in the region and supporting the local agricultural sector.
