On March 6, a ceremony was held in the Bazar-Korgon district of the Jalal-Abad region to lay a time capsule symbolizing the start of work on the modernization of the Kar-Unkur-Sai irrigation system.
The Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry initiated the laying of the capsule.
Local authorities, residents of the district, investors, and representatives of China Road attended the event.
The project includes the updating of irrigation infrastructure that will provide water supply for eight settlements in the Bazar-Korgon district. In particular, a complete reconstruction of the 15 km left bank main canal and the construction of a new upper utility canal 13.5 km long are planned.
An international tender was conducted for the implementation of the project, resulting in a contract worth 853 million 476 thousand soms. The work will be carried out by specialists from China Road.
The main goal of modernizing the Kar-Unkur-Sai irrigation system is to increase the capacity of the canals, reduce water losses, and improve the quality and availability of irrigation water for the population.
Upon completion of the project, water supply will be improved for 8,225 hectares of irrigated land in Bazar-Korgon, as well as in the rural districts of Saydykium and Akman, positively impacting over 114,000 residents.
It is expected that all modernization work will be completed by the end of December 2028.
