"Close to the Sun on a Camel": A Camel Festival Took Place in Southern Mongolia. Photos

On Sunday, in the southern aimag of Mongolia, Dundgovi, the camel festival "Temeendeer Naran Oirkhon" ("The sun is closer from the back of a camel") took place, aimed at promoting tourism and passing on the culture of camel breeding to future generations. This was reported by MiddleAsianNews.

The camel festival, organized under the auspices of the President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, is conducted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth, the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry, as well as the office of the aimag governor.



Hundreds of camel herders and their camels from all corners of the country gathered for the two-day celebration, which took place in the center of the Mandalgov' aimag.





Various activities took place during the festival, including camel races, camel polo, a camel parade, archery from camels, relay races, and an exhibition of camel-related products.


At the festival, the tallest camel in Mongolia was also presented, standing at 3 meters and 6 centimeters tall.




Ambassadors from various countries were also present at the event, showing active interest in what was happening.

According to census data, it is expected that by 2025, the number of camels in Mongolia will exceed 501,000 individuals.

Dundgovi is located in southern Mongolia, approximately 240 kilometers from the capital city, Ulaanbaatar.
