Iran's Foreign Ministry called Time's data about the death of 30,000 people during the protests a lie
Ismail Bagai also noted that Time is based on data from two high-ranking Iranian officials from the Ministry of Health. At the same time, the human rights organization HRANA, located in the USA, provides different statistics, claiming that the number of dead is 5,500, and also indicates 17,000 cases that are under investigation.
Protests in Iran began on December 28 in response to the collapse of the national currency and significant price increases. Demonstrators called for a change in the political regime. Iranian authorities reported 3,100 deaths among protesters, and on January 21, it was announced that the unrest had been suppressed.
