Elon Musk has initiated a lawsuit against OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, demanding compensation amounting to $109.4 billion. In his lawsuit, Musk, who is one of the co-founders of OpenAI, claims that he was unlawfully deprived of his stake in the company despite significant investments and contributions to its creation. OpenAI categorically denies these allegations, according to reports from Bloomberg and other news outlets.

According to an expert hired by Musk's lawyers, he invested about $38 million in OpenAI during its early years and provided his professional connections and skills. Given the current valuation of the company, he believes he is entitled to a stake valued between $65.5 billion and $109.4 billion. Musk is also demanding an additional $13-25 billion from Microsoft, one of OpenAI's key partners, claiming that this corporation has reaped the greatest benefits from the commercialization of artificial intelligence technologies.
In his lawsuit, Musk describes OpenAI's actions as a "gross violation" of the original agreements, as the organization was founded in 2015 as a non-profit project "for the benefit of humanity," but in his view, now serves the interests of large business entities.
Representatives of OpenAI responded that Musk had previously expressed a desire to take full control of the company and even proposed merging it with Tesla. After his departure in 2018, they believe he is attempting to weaken the competitiveness of his AI startup xAI and the chatbot Grok through the courts. The court has already refused to dismiss the case, and the trial is expected to begin in April.
