According to information from Bloomberg, OpenAI plans to introduce advertising in ChatGPT for users of the free version and the new economical Go plan, priced at $8 per month. This plan was initially launched in India and is now being rolled out to the U.S. market.

It is worth noting that more expensive subscriptions will not contain ads. The implementation of the advertising model has become part of the company's new strategy aimed at diversifying revenue ahead of a potential IPO and compensating for significant expenses on the development and maintenance of its AI systems. The publication reports that OpenAI does not expect to achieve profitability in the coming years, planning to invest about $1.4 trillion in data centers and AI chips.

In the first phase, the company intends to test placing ads related to products and services below ChatGPT's responses, separating the ad blocks from the main content. OpenAI believes that such advertising could help users approach their purchases more thoughtfully.

As Bloomberg reports, OpenAI currently has over 800 million active users each week. Additionally, the company employs executives with experience in advertising, such as Fiji Simo, who heads the OpenAI app and previously worked on advertising development at Facebook and led Instacart.

In her statement, Simo noted that advertising will not affect the quality of ChatGPT's responses. The company also guarantees that it will not share user data with advertisers and will not show ads on sensitive topics, such as mental health and politics, to underage users identified by the system.

Furthermore, Bloomberg reminds that Walt Disney Co. previously signed a three-year agreement with OpenAI, under which it will invest $1 billion and provide licenses for the use of its characters for the Sora platform.
