Time: The number of deaths during the protests in Iran has exceeded 200 people
According to a source, the bodies of the deceased were found in six hospitals in Tehran, and most of them died from gunshot wounds. Time's materials also state that on January 9, the corpses were removed from medical facilities.
At the same time, Iranian human rights activists present different statistics, according to which, based on data from the HRANA organization, at least 65 people have died during two weeks of protests in the country — among them 50 protesters and 14 security personnel.
As Time clarifies, the agency is unable to confirm the data provided by HRANA, which only accounts for those whose identities have been established.
According to information from the Tasnim agency, the number of law enforcement officers killed during the unrest has risen to 15. Of these, six died in Fars province, and another 120 police officers were injured. Tasnim reports that in Qom province, two police officers died from 40 stab wounds, while in Mashhad, seven security personnel fell victim to demonstrators.
U.S. President Donald Trump has already issued threats to the Iranian government twice, warning of possible serious consequences in the event of the killing of protesters.
Protests in Iran began in late December against the backdrop of the national currency's decline and a sharp rise in prices. Participants in these protests in various cities are demanding a change in the political regime and the return to power of the Shah's heir — Prince Reza Pahlavi. Tehran believes that the protests are organized with the support of Israel and the United States.
