Today, the court decided to release the journalist under a travel restriction. However, the defense remained dissatisfied with the decision regarding other aspects of the case.
“We disagree with the refusal to terminate the case. The court did not grant our motion for a complete dismissal of the proceedings,” the lawyer explained.
He added that at the next hearing, which will be held on April 7, the defense will not submit a motion to terminate the case at this stage again. The process will move on to substantive consideration.
It is worth reminding that on October 10, 2024, the Lenin District Court sentenced Mahabat Tajibek kyzy to six years of imprisonment. Later, the Bishkek City Court upheld this sentence, and the Supreme Court also confirmed the decisions of the lower courts in February 2025.
After that, the defense filed a motion for a review of the case based on newly discovered circumstances. As a result, the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic sent the case back for reconsideration in the district court.
Previously, international human rights organizations and representatives of the media community called for a review of the sentence against Mahabat Tajibek kyzy.
Mahabat Tajibek kyzy is a journalist and the head of the Temirov LIVE project, as well as the wife of investigative journalist Bolot Temirov. Together, they conducted anti-corruption investigations that garnered a wide public response. Earlier, Bolot Temirov was expelled from Kyrgyzstan and stripped of his citizenship.
