High-ranking officials attended the event, including President Sadyr Japarov, Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Marlen Mamataliev, Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev, and Mayor Aibek Junushaliev. The reading of the Quran began at 07:30, 30 minutes after sunrise.
After the reading of the Quran, sermons were held, during which the Supreme Mufti of Kyrgyzstan explained the process of performing the Eid prayer. Believers were reminded of the intention (niyyah), the number of rakats, and additional takbirs, as well as the importance of unity during collective prayer.
Then the believers began the collective performance of the Eid prayer.
After the prayer, the believers congratulated each other on the holiday and dispersed to their homes.
Key Points about the Eid Prayer
The Eid prayer, also known as Id prayer, is a collective prayer performed by Muslims on the holidays of Orozo Eid and Kurman Eid. The time and place of the prayer are determined by the Spiritual Administration of Muslims in the country.
The festive prayer begins 30 minutes after sunrise and ends with the commencement of the noon prayer. In Islam, there are four madhhabs — Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, and Hanbali. According to the Hanafi and Hanbali madhhabs, the Eid prayer is obligatory, while in the Shafi'i and Maliki madhhabs, it is considered a Sunnah, meaning a desirable action.
Travelers and women are exempt from the obligation to perform the festive prayer, but they may join if they wish. If someone misses the Eid prayer, according to the Shafi'i madhhab, it is recommended to make it up, but there are no strict deadlines for this. According to the Hanafi madhhab, if the prayer was missed, it should not be made up on the same day, but it can be done the next day.
On the days of the Eid prayer, it is especially encouraged to observe traditions: it is recommended to take a bath, use perfumes, wear the best clothes, and arrive for prayer early. On the day of Orozo Eid, it is preferable to eat something before going to prayer, ideally an odd number of dates.
