What is the Ait prayer?
The Ait prayer, or Eid prayer, is a collective prayer performed by Muslims on the days of Orozo Ait and Kurman Ait. The time and place for this prayer are determined by the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the country.
When does the Ait prayer start?
The start of the festive prayer is set for 30 minutes after sunrise. The time for its performance expires with the onset of the noon prayer.
Is the Ait prayer mandatory?
There are four main schools of thought in Islam: Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, and Hanbali. Hanafi and Hanbali followers consider the Ait prayer mandatory, while Shafi'i and Maliki followers view it as a desirable act (Sunnah).
Who is exempt from participating in the Ait prayer?
Travelers and women are not obligated to participate in the festive prayer, but they are allowed to attend if they wish.
What to do if you miss the Ait prayer?
If you miss the Ait prayer, according to the Shafi'i school, it is advisable to make it up as a missed prayer. This should be done as soon as possible, but there is no time limit. Hanafi followers recommend not making up the missed collective prayer on that day, but to do so the next day.
Recommended actions on the day of the Ait prayer
On the days when the Ait prayer is held, it is advisable to perform the same actions as on Friday: take a shower, use perfumes, wear your best clothes, and arrive for the prayer early. On the day of Orozo Ait, it is preferable to have a light snack before the festive prayer, ideally an odd number of dates.
