When age becomes an opportunity for new meetings and joy

In Bishkek, there is a space where elderly people can find support, activity, and joy in communication

It is commonly believed in society that youth is a time of unlimited opportunities, but in practice, it turns out that mature age can also open doors to friendship, creativity, and an active life. In Bishkek, there is a program called "Active Longevity" at the gerontological center "Ardager," where elderly people find just such support and opportunities for communication.

Recently, participants of the program, gathered in the group "Zhany Dem," celebrated March 8 — International Women's Day.

The festive event took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The hall was filled with songs, dances, and poetry, and many participants took the stage for the first time, but thanks to the support of friends and mentors, they felt confident.

The group members showed initiative by preparing creative performances that made the celebration unforgettable. Vocal and dance instructors — Lunara Jumabek, Tynara Jumabaeva, and Khalida Dodobaeva — assisted in preparing the performances and supported the participants in revealing their talents.

Such events remind us that age is not just a number, but also a rich life experience, wisdom, and mutual assistance. Elderly people know how to value communication, share warmth, and genuinely rejoice in meetings.

After the concert, the participants lingered, chatting over cups of tea, reminiscing about their youth, and laughing. In such moments, the strength of support and respect for one another is particularly felt.
The "Active Longevity" program has been operating in Bishkek since the fall of 2024. It aims to help elderly people remain active, in demand, and continue to develop. With the help of the public fund "Socioum," here one can not only receive consultations but also try their hand at various activities.

Participants are offered free classes in Kyrgyz and English, digital literacy courses that explain how to use modern technologies. Creative activities such as vocal, dance, painting, knitting, and handicrafts are also available. For those wishing to maintain their health, classes in gymnastics, yoga, and Nordic walking are organized.

It is important that people find new friends here. Many admit that they come not only for learning but also for communication. This is a chance for someone to break out of loneliness, and for others — to once again become part of a friendly team.
The director of the public fund "Socioum" and the doctor of the "Active Longevity" department, Batma Estebesova, emphasizes the importance of such initiatives:

“We see how people change when they start attending classes. They gain a new circle of communication, interests, and self-confidence. Our task is to support elderly people so that they remain active and understand that their life experience is still important to society.”

Currently, the "Active Longevity" program covers more than 260 elderly residents of Bishkek, and about 60 people regularly participate in classes and events. The community is gradually growing thanks to word of mouth, as people share information about where they can spend time productively.

Organizers emphasize that the program is open to all elderly people who wish to learn, communicate, and lead an active lifestyle. Age is not a criterion here — on the contrary, the life experience and wisdom of the participants create an atmosphere of respect and friendliness.

Sometimes, it only takes one step for life to take on new colors — just come to a class, meet new people, or try your hand at creativity.
