The number of domestic violence cases in Kyrgyzstan has increased by 24%

At the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York, Deputy Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan Nurgul Bakirova shared alarming data on the rise in the number of court cases related to domestic violence. In 2025, the number of such cases reached 1,196, which is 24% more compared to the previous year.

Bakirova emphasized that these figures indicate not only the ongoing seriousness of the problem but also an increase in the detection of offenses, as well as a growing trust of citizens in the judicial system.

Various legislative initiatives aimed at gender equality and combating domestic violence are being implemented in the country. Among them are the laws "On Protection and Prevention of Domestic Violence" and "On State Guarantees of Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women".

The forum where Bakirova is speaking has gathered representatives from 107 countries and will last until March 19.
