The number of domestic violence cases in Kyrgyzstan increased by 24 percent in 2025
In 2025, Kyrgyzstan registered a 24 percent increase in domestic violence cases. This was reported by Nurgul Bakirova, Deputy Chairperson of the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic, during the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York.

According to the Supreme Court data, this year the courts of the country reviewed 1,196 cases related to domestic violence, which is 24 percent more compared to 2024.

Nurgul Bakirova noted that such changes indicate not only the significance of the problem but also an increase in the detection of crimes, as well as a growing trust of the public in the judicial system.

Bakirova also emphasized that access to justice remains a strategic priority for Kyrgyzstan, but women still face economic and socio-cultural barriers.

To effectively combat violence in the country, a National Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality by 2030 is being implemented, aimed at improving the legislative framework and supporting women's economic independence.

The forum in New York will last until March 19, 2026, with representatives from 107 countries participating. The main theme of the session is ensuring access to justice for all women and girls.
