Legendary football coach Boris Podkorytov has passed away

The football specialist gained fame through his work in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.


We are saddened to announce the death of Boris Podkorytov, a renowned football coach. The information has been confirmed by the Kyrgyz Football Union.

This esteemed coach and football figure, who held a significant place in the history of Kyrgyz football, passed away at the age of 78.

Boris Petrovich Podkorytov was born on May 3, 1948, in Frunze. His journey in football began under the guidance of the famous youth coach Vladimir Korobchenko. In 1966, after a successful performance at the all-Union youth tournament, he was invited to the experimental USSR national team preparing for the Olympic Games in Mexico City. In this team, he played alongside such well-known players as Evgeny Lovchev and Sergey Olshansky.
During his career, Boris played for Moscow's "Lokomotiv" and became the captain of the famous "Alga".

After finishing his playing career, he focused on coaching. After completing coaching courses in Moscow, in 1980 he took charge of Frunze's "Alga". Later, he worked abroad, particularly in Algeria, where in 1988 he won the championship title with one of the teams.

Over the years, Podkorytov coached Kazakhstani clubs such as "Kainar," "Astana," and "Zhetysu," and was also part of the coaching staff of the Kazakhstan national team.

Upon returning to Kyrgyzstan, he led the club "Dordoi-Dynamo," with which he achieved significant success. Under his leadership, the team became the champion of Kyrgyzstan and the holder of the national cup. Among his achievements are victories in the AFC President's Cup in 2006 and 2007.

In 2006, he also headed the Kyrgyz national team, and in 2008, he became the general director of the "Dordoi" club. In 2011, he worked as a consultant coach for the national team.

Throughout his career, Boris Podkorytov was repeatedly awarded the title of Coach of the Year and was rightfully considered one of the most respected coaches in Kyrgyz football.

The Kyrgyz Football Union expresses its deep condolences to the family and loved ones of Boris Podkorytov, as well as to his friends and colleagues.

The farewell ceremony will take place on Friday, March 6.
