The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic has published recommendations for its citizens who find themselves in a situation of eviction from hotels in the United Arab Emirates.
In light of the current events in the Middle East, the UAE authorities have instructed hotels to extend the stay of guests whose check-out date has passed without charging additional fees. If you are already being evicted or are about to be evicted, follow the instructions below.
- Stay calm and politely assert your rights to continue your stay. Clearly explain to the reception staff or managers that according to the directives of the local authorities, your stay should be extended without payment for the duration of the restrictions.
- Do not leave your room voluntarily. Do not take your belongings out and do not sign eviction documents unless you are offered alternative accommodation and the reasons for eviction are explained to you.
- Request a meeting with the responsible person. Ask for the duty manager or hotel manager to be called and document your request for an extension of stay in the hotel log.
- If you are being pressured, insist on calling the police. The contact number for the police is 999. If the hotel continues to insist on eviction, call the police yourself or ask hotel staff to do so for official documentation of the situation.
- Do not pay for your stay out of your own pocket. Usually, if you pay for your stay, the money is not refunded.
- Document what is happening. Take photos or videos: the hotel sign, the reception desk, notifications, correspondence, bills. If possible, note the name of the staff member demanding eviction. Keep all receipts and documents.
- Urgently contact the embassy or consulate of the Kyrgyz Republic. Provide the following information: hotel name, address, your room number, your name, contact phone number, number of companions (including children and elderly), and the hotel’s demands (eviction, payment, relocation).
- If you have already been evicted. If possible, stay in the lobby or on the hotel premises until the police arrive or the issue is resolved with hotel management. Immediately contact foreign institutions and provide all details.
Brief message in English to resolve the issue:
I am a stranded guest due to the current situation and flight disruptions. UAE authorities instructed hotels to extend guests' stay free of charge. Please escalate this to the duty manager. If you insist on eviction, please call the police so the matter can be officially recorded. (I am a guest who is stranded due to the current situation and flight disruptions.
