Bakyt Torobaev shared information about preparations for spring fieldwork at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh
At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, the Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, Bakyt Torobaev, reported that this year the volume of water in Kyrgyzstan's reservoirs has significantly decreased compared to the previous year.
Currently, there are 498 reservoirs operating in the country, with a total designed capacity of 1 billion 750 million cubic meters. However, the actual volume of accumulated water is only 939 million cubic meters, which is 32% less compared to the same period last year.
Additionally, Torobaev noted that in 2026, it is planned to sow 1 million 250 thousand hectares of arable land, of which 885 thousand hectares will be irrigated. To ensure irrigation, approximately 6 billion 300 million cubic meters of water will be needed on average 4–5 times.
