According to Torobaev, water supply to farmers will be carried out through electronic meters.
This year, there has been a significant reduction in water reserves in Kyrgyzstan's reservoirs. This information was presented by the Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, Bakyt Torobaev, at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh committee dedicated to agricultural policy.
Torobaev reported that currently, about 884 million cubic meters of water are accumulated in 498 reservoirs across the country, which is 30-35% less compared to the same period last year. The total design capacity of all reservoirs is 1 billion 757 million cubic meters.
The minister also noted that by 2026, it is planned to cultivate 1 million 250 thousand hectares of arable land, of which 885 thousand hectares will be irrigated. To provide the fields with water (an average of 4-5 irrigations), approximately 6.3 billion cubic meters will be required.
This year, 12.3 billion soms have been allocated for the development of the irrigation system. These funds will be used for:
- cleaning and repairing 776 kilometers of canals;
- laying 657 thousand square meters of concrete;
- restoring 590 hydraulic structures;
- repairing 508 water measurement posts, 91 pumping stations, and 170 pumping units;
- updating 46 pumping units;
- installing about 1,500 electronic water meters;
- putting 225 collector-drainage systems in order.
Bakyt Torobaev emphasized that the water supply to farmers will gradually be transferred to electronic accounting, which will allow for more accurate control over resource distribution and reduce losses.
