The mayor of Bishkek emphasized the issue of illegal burials and the lack of alternative options for the road.
The meeting of Bishkek Mayor Aibek Junushaliev with the residents of MTU "Novopavlovka" was dedicated to discussing the planned road that will pass through the cemetery area.
The discussion concerned the extension of Profsoyuznaya Street, which will affect 1,364 graves. Upon learning about the project, local residents expressed their concerns and appealed to the authorities to reconsider this decision, as not everyone will be able to relocate their deceased loved ones before the work begins.
The mayor noted that from 2021 to 2024, dozens of people were illegally buried in this cemetery, including those whose graves will be in the path of the new road.
Additionally, Junushaliev expressed concern about compliance with sanitary norms during the burial process. Due to the need to clear the area, the municipality held consultations with the bishop and the mufti regarding the reburials.
The planned works will also affect four residential houses, for which the owners were promised compensation. "There is no alternative to this site," the mayor added.
