A draft law has been initiated in the Kyrgyz Republic that introduces the concept of digital evidence and establishes clear procedures for its collection, storage, documentation, and use in criminal cases. This became known through the press service of the Ministry of Justice.
This document proposes amendments to the Criminal Code, the Criminal Procedure Code, and the Code of Offenses. One of the key features is the protection of citizens' rights, including procedural guarantees related to working with digital data that affect personal correspondence, private life, and personal data, as well as the creation of mechanisms for judicial oversight.
Moreover, the draft law updates outdated terminology, aligning it with the Digital Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. It also proposes the introduction of legal tools for working with virtual assets, which are increasingly becoming targets for crimes.
The adoption of this draft law is expected to create a modern legal framework for combating cybercrime, establish clear rules for working with digital data, and ensure consistency in law enforcement. This, in turn, should enhance the protection of citizens' rights and improve the effectiveness of investigations into crimes related to the use of the internet, digital services, and telecommunications networks.
