In Kyrgyzstan, there is an increase in the number of maternal mortality cases. In 2025, 48 cases were recorded, which corresponds to 34.8 per 100,000 live births, and this is a 35.4% increase compared to the previous year, when 36 cases were registered. This data was presented at a meeting of the Ministry of Health's board, as reported by the press service.

At the same time, infant mortality in the country has decreased.

The Minister of Health, Kanbek Dosmambetov, emphasized that the level of maternal and child mortality is an important indicator of the state of healthcare and must remain among the priority tasks, as it concerns the lives of women and newborns.

He characterized the rise in maternal mortality as a "serious signal" for making management decisions and instructed to develop a comprehensive set of necessary measures as soon as possible, within a week. The Minister noted the importance of revising antenatal care standards with a focus on quality, as well as integrating primary healthcare with hospitals and strict routing of pregnant women, especially from at-risk groups. He also pointed out the need to strengthen telemedicine consultations and implement prenatal screening.

The priority should be to prevent complications, ensure timely hospitalization, and provide access to qualified medical care.

Key tasks for 2026 have been identified as reducing maternal and infant mortality.
