In 2025, Kyrgyzstan faced an increase in the number of maternal deaths. Health Minister Kanbek Dosmambetov announced this alarming information during a discussion at a meeting of his department.
According to the minister, 48 cases of maternal mortality were recorded during the specified period, which amounts to 34.8 per 100,000 live births. This is a 35.4% increase compared to the previous year, when the number of cases was 36 (25.7 per 100,000).
Dosmambetov noted that maternal and child mortality rates are important indicators of the state of healthcare and must remain a focus, as they directly affect the health of women and newborns.

The minister also emphasized the importance of developing telemedicine consultations and implementing prenatal screening.
"The priority should be preventing complications, timely hospitalization, and access to qualified medical care," he added.
At the same meeting of the Ministry of Health, it was also reported that infant mortality in the country decreased by the end of 2025. This figure was 13.5 cases per 1,000 live births, which is 4.2% lower than the previous year. However, the structure of causes of infant mortality remained stable, although there was an increase in cases related to infectious and parasitic diseases.
