The Secretary of State of the Kyrgyz Republic, Arslan Koichiev, emphasized the importance of adhering to sequence and traditions in the awarding of state honors during an interview on Kyrgyz Radio. He noted that such adherence is a symbol of the nation's continuity and its state development.
In Koichiev's opinion, the award system requires changes and should be improved to achieve higher quality.
“There is a lot of criticism regarding the fact that awards are given to people who do not deserve them. People are expressing the need to revise the selection criteria. I share these views and advocate for reforms in this area. If changes are not made, dissatisfaction in society will only increase. We need to set higher standards for those being awarded,” he added.
The Secretary of State also noted that the reform project has sparked active discussions, especially concerning the titles of “People's Writer” and “People's Poet of Kyrgyzstan.”
“I fully support the opinions of those who are making proposals. The names of such cultural figures as Aaly Tokombaev and Suyunbay Eraliyev are foundational for our literature and nation. It would be extremely inappropriate to remove their honorary titles. Recently, questions have arisen regarding these high titles due to a decline in standards. We need to significantly improve the criteria for receiving them,” he summarized.
