Freedom of speech in Kyrgyzstan discussed by the Minister of Culture and an OSCE representative
In Vienna (Austria), a meeting took place between Mirbek Mambetaliev, the Minister of Culture of Kyrgyzstan, and Jan Bratu, an OSCE representative responsible for media freedom issues. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic.

During the discussion, the parties examined the current state of the media industry in Kyrgyzstan and important issues related to freedom of expression.

The head of the ministry noted that Kyrgyzstan adheres to its international commitments regarding freedom of speech, emphasizing the need to maintain a balance between media freedom and responsibility for disseminating information, as stated in the official message.

Topics such as digital transformation, combating misinformation, and enhancing professional standards and media literacy were also discussed.

Particular attention was paid to issues concerning draft laws, journalist safety, and the development of practical cooperation with the OSCE, including expert consultations, training programs, and the exchange of best practices.
