The Minister of Culture and the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Discussed the State of the Media Sphere in Kyrgyzstan

On January 13, a meeting took place in the capital of Austria, Vienna, between the Minister of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy, Mirbek Mambetaliev, and Jan Bratu, a representative of the OSCE dealing with issues of media freedom.

The press service of the Ministry of Culture reported that the meeting discussed current issues in the media sphere of Kyrgyzstan, as well as questions related to freedom of expression.

The Minister emphasized that Kyrgyzstan remains committed to international obligations in the field of freedom of speech, noting the necessity of maintaining a balance between media freedom and responsibility for the dissemination of information.

Among the topics discussed were issues of digital transformation, combating disinformation, as well as raising professional standards and media literacy.

Additionally, special attention was given to legislative initiatives, the safety of journalists, and the development of practical cooperation with the OSCE, which includes expert support, training programs, and experience exchange.
