At the plenary session held on March 18, the State Duma will begin discussing two bills aimed at further improving migration policy, as announced by the Chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin. His words were conveyed by the parliament's press service.

The proposed changes concern the Law "On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Russian Federation," as well as amendments to the country's Tax Code.

According to the new regulations, labor migrants will be required to pay a fixed advance tax not only for themselves but also for all family members dependent on them in Russia. The duration of the migrant's stay and that of their family members will directly depend on the length of their employment relationship. Migrant children who reach the age of 18 will have to leave the country within 30 days if they do not have legal grounds for further residence in Russia.
If a foreign citizen fails to provide information about their income or if their income is below a certain threshold, their patent or work permit will be revoked.
Additionally, there are plans to tighten the requirements for foreigners who have obtained temporary residence permits or residence permits. These permits may be revoked if the migrant works for less than ten months within a year. The draft also contains other changes related to the regulation of labor activities of foreign citizens in Russia.
