Nazgul Turdubekova, director of the Public Fund "League of Child Rights Defenders," has appealed to the head of state, the chairman of the cabinet of ministers, and the vice-speaker of parliament with an urgent call to pay attention to the ongoing rise in domestic violence. She wrote about this on her social media page.
The human rights activist believes that the fight against domestic violence should become part of a systematic state policy.
To achieve this goal, she proposed the implementation of a legislatively approved interdisciplinary model of support for victims, which would include lawyers, psychologists, and social workers.
At present, according to her, the main focus is on law enforcement agencies, which leads to work being limited to responding only to instances of violence or even murder.
“Such an approach does not provide adequate protection and does not prevent re-victimization. A shift to a preventive and comprehensive support system is extremely necessary,” she noted, proposing several specific measures:
– adopt a law that ensures psychological assistance and mandatory psychological support in cases of domestic violence;
– implement a law requiring the establishment of an interdisciplinary team to work on each case of violence;
– establish an institute of social workers who will focus on preventing violence, early detection of risks, and supporting families;
– ensure funding for the activities of psychologists and social workers, as well as establish clear standards for interagency cooperation,” she added.
Nazgul Turdubekova emphasized that the implementation of the new model will allow for the creation of an effective prevention system, reduce the number of repeat cases of violence, improve the quality of judicial protection, and strengthen citizens' trust in justice.
