The parliamentary committee on law enforcement supported amendments to the Code of Offenses aimed at protecting consumer rights and establishing liability for counterfeiting halal product labels.

Manufacturers using fake certificates or other schemes to deceive customers will face penalties.

Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce Sultan Akhmatov explained to the deputies that the new initiative is aimed at regulating the halal goods and services market.

Committee members expressed the need to strengthen oversight measures and allocate special areas in markets for products with halal certification.

A fine of 13,000 soms is proposed for legal entities for violations in confirming the compliance of halal services and goods. Cases related to these offenses will be handled by the authorized health authority.

The committee also approved, in the third reading, amendments to the Criminal Code regarding the fight against torture. The new version of Article 137 complies with UN requirements and provides for punishment for torture not only for officials but also for any citizens performing state functions.
