During a recent meeting between the Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan Kanbek Dosmambetov and U.S. Ambassador Leslie Viguerie, the deepening of mutual cooperation in the healthcare sector was discussed. The U.S. side proposed the initiative to create a new memorandum that will help define key priorities for the coming years. This information was provided by the press service of the ministry.
The American side is focused on three main areas of work: ensuring access to medical services and medications for people with HIV, supporting the national tuberculosis control program, and strengthening sanitary and epidemiological preparedness. Currently, a process of inter-agency coordination for the memorandum project is underway in Kyrgyzstan. After a thorough analysis of all financial, legal, and tax aspects, the document will be sent back to the U.S. through official channels.
Specific initiatives were also discussed at the meeting. In particular, the construction of a medical town in Bishkek was discussed, as well as the possibility of acquiring modern medical and laboratory equipment from leading American manufacturers. Additionally, Kyrgyzstan is interested in internships and continuing education for medical professionals in the U.S.
The U.S. Ambassador reminded that cooperation in the field of healthcare between the two countries has been ongoing since the mid-1990s and covers programs related to HIV, tuberculosis, and sanitary and epidemiological safety.
At the end of the meeting, Minister Kanbek Dosmambetov emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is interested in constructive and mutually beneficial partnership. All proposed initiatives will be considered in accordance with existing procedures and legislation, which will ensure the sustainability of the healthcare system.
The parties agreed to continue joint work, focusing on issues of epidemiological safety, infrastructure modernization, commercial interactions, and training of medical personnel.
