A recent meeting between the Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan, Kanbek Dosmambetov, and the U.S. Ambassador, Leslie Viguerie, took place in an atmosphere of cooperation and mutual understanding. According to the Ministry of Health, the main topics of discussion included the exchange of experiences in disease prevention, public health, training specialists, and the implementation of new medical technologies. The Minister emphasized that there is significant potential for deepening relations between Kyrgyzstan and the United States, especially in the context of strengthening the healthcare system. During the conversation, it was also noted that a project is being developed for the construction of a medical city in Bishkek, which will be equipped with modern medical equipment, including products from leading American companies. There was also expressed interest in internships and professional development for Kyrgyz specialists in the United States. According to information from the American side, cooperation in the field of health began in the mid-1990s and covers programs related to HIV, tuberculosis, and sanitary-epidemiological safety. In this regard, the U.S. proposed to formalize new cooperation in the form of a memorandum that will define key areas for the coming years. The proposed memorandum is expected to focus on three main areas: ensuring access to medical services and medications for people with HIV; supporting the tuberculosis control program; and strengthening readiness for sanitary-epidemiological threats. Dosmambetov added that the draft memorandum is currently undergoing interagency coordination with an analysis of financial, legal, and institutional aspects. Based on the results of the analysis, all comments will be sent to the American side through official channels. At the end of the meeting, the parties confirmed their interest in continuing joint work in the field of health, improving epidemiological safety, modernizing infrastructure, and training medical professionals.
