The Minister of Health and the U.S. Ambassador discussed the memorandum of cooperation and plans for the medical city in Bishkek.
During the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the field of health, including the exchange of experiences in public health, disease prevention, medical personnel training, and the implementation of modern medical technologies. The minister emphasized the importance of further developing the partnership between the U.S. and Kyrgyzstan to strengthen the healthcare system.
They also discussed the work on a plan to create a medical campus in Bishkek, which involves the acquisition of modern medical and laboratory equipment from leading American manufacturers. An important aspect of the discussion was the possibility of internships and continuing education for Kyrgyz specialists in the U.S.
Representatives of the American side noted that cooperation in the healthcare sector has been ongoing since the mid-1990s and covers programs on HIV, tuberculosis, and sanitary-epidemiological safety. In this regard, the U.S. proposed to formalize new cooperation in the form of a memorandum that will define current priorities for the coming years.
Under this memorandum, it is proposed to focus on three key areas: ensuring access to services and medications for people living with HIV; supporting the national tuberculosis control program; and strengthening sanitary-epidemiological preparedness.
The minister reported that the draft memorandum is currently at the stage of interagency coordination, taking into account financial, legal, tax, and institutional aspects. After the process is completed, consolidated comments will be sent to the U.S. through official channels.
The parties expressed interest in continuing cooperation on health issues, epidemiological safety, infrastructure modernization, commercial interaction, and the training of medical specialists.
