Uzbekistan deployed a Bayraktar drone unit at the border

During a meeting of the Security Council chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the head of the State Security Service (SSS), Bakhodir Kurbonov, announced the establishment of this unit. The fortification of the borders is not limited to drones: almost half of the border length (42%) is already covered by surveillance systems, and over 1,100 kilometers of fiber optic communication lines have been laid. The border troops are currently almost fully equipped with armored vehicles and weapons, and the level of provision with electro-optical devices has reached 78%.
The SSS has also reorganized security in the aviation sector. Now, the country's international airports are under the protection of the agency, which required the upgrading of the "Lochin" brigade with the acquisition of about one hundred units of new special equipment. After the successful implementation of new security protocols in Tashkent, similar measures will be extended to all airports in the republic throughout 2026. These measures have already reduced the number of border violations by one and a half times, and the effectiveness of seizing smuggled goods has increased by 20%.
The report also addressed issues of countering major threats such as terrorism, drug trafficking, and corruption. The head of the SSS reported the prevention of 11 attempts to organize terrorist acts both within the country and abroad in 2025. However, the problem of illegal drug trafficking is growing: the volume of seized substances increased from 1.7 to 3.6 tons over the year, and the number of discovered underground laboratories has doubled. Attention is being paid to synthetic drugs and psychotropic substances, with confiscation volumes reaching hundreds of kilograms and millions of doses.
The strengthening of the country's internal security is also being carried out through the fight against corruption. In 2025, anti-corruption measures led to the dismissal of 1,083 civil servants, of which 661 were prosecuted for bribery and abuse of power. Thus, the comprehensive modernization of Uzbekistan's law enforcement agencies is aimed at creating a multi-level defense against external and internal challenges.
