Uzbekistan has deployed a special unit with Bayraktar drones at the state border

A new unit that has been put on combat duty will use Bayraktar drones. The head of the State Security Service also spoke about significant modernization of border security. Currently, video surveillance systems cover 42% of the state border, and the length of laid fiber-optic communication lines is 1,117 kilometers. The border troops have received modern drones to enhance their capabilities.

According to the State Security Service, the staffing level of border guards is 98% for armored vehicles, 88% for watercraft, 100% for weapons and ammunition, and 78% for electronic-optical devices. There is also an observed increase in the intensity and quality of combat training activities.

The State Security Service has taken on the tasks of securing international airports. As part of the reorganization, the "Lochin" brigade was updated, resulting in the complete replacement of the brigade's armament and the renewal of about 100 units of equipment. A new security system has been implemented for the "Tashkent" and "Tashkent-Khumo" airports (formerly known as "Tashkent-East"), based on control-patrol groups. In 2026, this system will be extended to all airports in the country.

Kurbunov also highlighted the main threats facing Uzbekistan. He identified four major dangers: terrorist acts, cross-border threats, illegal drug trafficking, and corruption.

According to the head of the State Security Service, in 2025, 11 terrorist acts planned both within the country and abroad were prevented, as well as the destructive activities of 11 citizens from Central Asia were halted.

Thanks to measures to strengthen the border, the number of violations has decreased by one and a half times, while the volume of seized contraband has increased by 20%.

The drug problem continues to escalate. In 2024, 1,700 kilograms of narcotic substances were seized, and in 2025, this figure increased to 3,600 kilograms. The number of arrests rose from 2,600 to 4,500, and the number of closed underground drug laboratories increased from 8 to 15.

Among the youth, there is a rise in the use of synthetic drugs. In 2025, over 180 kilograms of synthetic substances and more than 1 million psychotropic drugs were seized.

According to information from the State Security Service, cases of abuse of office, corruption, and bribery are recorded in state institutions. In 2025, 1,083 employees involved in corrupt schemes were dismissed from government structures, of which 661 were brought to criminal responsibility.

  • The Bayraktar TB2 drone, a Turkish medium-altitude strike aircraft, is capable of carrying up to four guided munitions and can stay in the air for 12 to 24 hours. Its maximum control range is 150 kilometers, allowing it to effectively carry out reconnaissance and strike missions against targets.
