Kyrgyzstan's TV Channels Recommended to Show Domestic Content More Often
During today's meeting organized by the Ministry of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy, issues regarding the increase of domestic content share on the country's television channels were discussed.
According to information obtained during the analysis conducted by the ministry, a number of channels frequently broadcast programs created more than ten years ago. Moreover, in the evening hours, some of them have virtually no Kyrgyz content.
Deputy Minister Marat Tagaev noted at the meeting that the norms of Article 8 of the Law "On Television and Radio Broadcasting" are not being followed, which requires broadcasters to air programs in state and official languages, with at least 60% of programs to be broadcast in the state language.
“Some television channels are formally complying with this law. In particular, they continue to show old programs that aired many years ago. I understand that the modern media market faces difficulties, especially in the advertising sector. Producing original content and maintaining channels require significant financial investments. However, we, as a ministry, must insist that viewers have access to content in the Kyrgyz language,” he emphasized.
“Our task is to ensure compliance with the law, promote the development of the state language, protect viewers' rights, and improve the quality of content on television,” he added.
The deputy minister also suggested that television channels consider the possibility of entering into contracts with the ministry's subordinate film studios, such as "Kyrgyzfilm" and "Kyrgyzserial," to acquire feature films and series for broadcasting.
