At the meeting of the relevant committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on March 9, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision Asel Raimkulova shared information about the implementation of new waste management mechanisms in Kyrgyzstan.

She noted that as part of the waste management reform, a state enterprise called "Ekooperator" was established in accordance with the Cabinet of Ministers' resolution No. 325. This enterprise will be responsible for implementing the extended producer responsibility mechanism.

Currently, within the framework of this mechanism, over 74 million soms have been collected in the form of recycling fees.

Standard rules for the management of municipal waste have also been developed, and the Cabinet's resolution No. 821 has tightened the requirements for the disposal of used batteries and lubricants.

Furthermore, resolution No. 771 prohibits the burial of waste containing valuable components, which is expected to promote recycling and reduce environmental impact, added Asel Raimkulova.
