At the "Kyzyl-Kiya" checkpoint in the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan, phytosanitary inspectors prevented the import of a large batch of seedlings. Employees of the Department of Chemicalization, Plant Protection, and Quarantine stopped two trucks carrying 80,520 seedlings from Uzbekistan, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan.

The decision to turn back the cargo was made based on a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers dated February 13, 2026, which imposed a temporary ban on the import of certain varieties of fruit and berry crops into the country.

During the inspection, it was found that the imported plant varieties were not included in the list of those permitted for import. Therefore, the state authorities decided to return 80,520 seedlings back to Uzbekistan.

The Batken Department is strengthening control as part of the policy to protect the domestic agricultural sector. The restrictions are aimed at regulating the import of varieties and ensuring phytosanitary safety, the ministry noted.
