However, alongside the positive aspects, there are groups and individuals who use the internet to promote radical ideologies, including terrorism and extremism, which poses a particular threat to minors.
- Radicalization through the internet is a process in which adolescents are gradually convinced to adopt views that justify violence and offenses by using social networks, messengers, and specialized websites, ultimately transforming their worldview.
GKNB specialists note that youth can access educational materials on creating homemade explosive devices and become targets of calls for violence, including attacks on law enforcement agencies. Such actions, as well as preparations for them, are classified in Kyrgyzstan as serious crimes and entail criminal liability.
“In the past six months, GKNB has recorded several cases of radicalization among adolescents, where recruitment was carried out by members of terrorist organizations via the internet. Some of those detained were at the stage of preparing a terrorist act, studying instructions for making explosive devices, while others were caught at the stage of actually creating them. These trends pose a serious threat to societal stability and national security,” the GKNB reported.
