Anti-immigration raid. Protests erupted in Minneapolis after the murder of a woman
The victim of the incident was 37-year-old Rene Nicole Good, who was shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer while she was in her car. In response, several thousand people took to the streets, expressing their feelings in a mourning rally and chanting slogans against ICE's actions. The scene of the incident is located near where George Floyd was killed in 2020, which sparked a wave of protests and contributed to the development of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Opinions on the incident vary. U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Good was shot after attempting to run over an ICE agent. However, when presented with video evidence showing that the woman was not trying to run over the officer, Trump reacted: "It's a terrible picture. I don't like to see it." On the social network Truth Social, he also noted that the agent acted in self-defense.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated at a press conference that Good was "pursuing" law enforcement officers and that the officer used his skills to protect his life and the lives of his colleagues.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey called the federal authorities' claims "nonsense," noting that the actions of the ICE agent were reckless and led to tragedy. He expressed his discontent, urging ICE to "get out of here."
According to The New York Times, this is the ninth instance since September where ICE agents have used firearms against individuals in vehicles.
We remind you that a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer shot a Minneapolis resident during a raid on illegal immigrants.
