Deputies supported the draft law on reducing the composition of the CEC in the first reading

In the first reading, deputies discussed and approved the draft law "On Amendments to the Law on the Regulations of the Jogorku Kenesh" and the draft constitutional law "On Amendments to the Constitutional Law on the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums." The initiators of these draft laws were deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh: Marlen Mamataliyev, Talant Mamytov, Akylbek Tumonbaev, Dastanbek Jumabekov, Nurbek Sydygaliev, and Talaybek Masabirov.

Nurbek Sydygaliev, one of the initiators, explained that the purpose of these draft laws is to optimize the composition and improve the procedure for forming the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums, which will ensure a higher quality and more efficient conduct of elections and referendums. In particular, it is proposed to reduce the number of CEC members from twelve to seven.

Additionally, Sydygaliev added that during the second reading, a proposal will be made to change the composition of the CEC to eight members.

During the discussion, deputy Suyunbek Omurzakov raised the issue of the principles of forming the composition of the CEC.

Deputy Kamila Talieva inquired about the reasons for the need to reduce the composition of the commission.

Ulan Primov clarified whether there had been situations where there was a tie in votes on important issues.

Burul Amanova emphasized the issue of gender representation within the CEC.

Deputies Gulnara Baatyrova and Gulsharkan Kultaeva also touched upon issues related to the principles of forming the composition of the CEC, equality of votes, and the status of commission members.
