As part of the "Ala-Too Live" program, the First Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, Janibek Kerimaliev, spoke about the key directions for the development of the agricultural sector ahead of the upcoming agro-industrial forum "Agrodialog-2026." He noted that to address the problem of pasture degradation in the country, it is necessary not only to increase livestock numbers but to significantly enhance their productivity.
According to experts, transitioning to high-yield breeds of breeding livestock can reduce the load on pastures by up to 5%. This means that maintaining a smaller number of animals with high meat and milk production rates is a more profitable and environmentally safe solution for the agricultural sector.
To achieve this goal, high-quality genetic material from elite breeds, such as Aberdeen Angus, Simmental, and Swedish, has already arrived in Kyrgyzstan. The seeds are distributed among farming households with the help of a network of veterinary and technical specialists. Under the state program for the development of breeding livestock, farmers receive the necessary consulting support.
The first results of the implementation of new breeds are expected to be assessed at the end of the autumn period. Experts will analyze the growth and productivity indicators of the livestock, after which the ministry will provide a final evaluation of the effectiveness of this initiative. The department is confident that focusing on breeding livestock will become the foundation for preserving the country's natural resources and enhancing the competitiveness of domestic agriculture.
