Breeding cattle will help reduce pasture degradation in Kyrgyzstan — Ministry of Agriculture

The First Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan, Zhanibek Kerimaliev, emphasized in the Aala-Too Live program that the main solution to the problem of pasture degradation is not the increase in livestock numbers, but rather the qualitative improvement of the livestock. This statement was made in the context of the upcoming agro-industrial forum "Agrodialog-2026".
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, pasture degradation continues to be a serious problem for the country. Experts claim that transitioning to high-yield breeding cattle can reduce the load on pastures by up to 5%. This means that maintaining a smaller number of more productive livestock, both meat and dairy, is more effective from both an economic and environmental perspective.

As part of this initiative, high-quality breeding seeds, including Aberdeen Angus, Simmental, and Swedish breeds, have been imported into the country. Farmers received the seed material through veterinary and technical specialists, as well as consulting support within the framework of the breeding livestock development program.

The ministry plans to conduct an analysis of the growth and productivity of the new breeds after the autumn season to assess the effectiveness of the implemented project.
The agency emphasizes that the development of breeding livestock is a strategically important step for preserving pastures and increasing the economic efficiency of the agricultural sector.
