It should be noted that prices may vary between supermarkets and markets, where discounted items are often found.
Since the beginning of our monitoring in late October 2018, the cost of the grocery basket has increased by 3,962 soms. Since the beginning of this year, the increase has been 509 soms, and compared to the same period last year — 1,237 soms.

Nutrition standards for the citizens of Kyrgyzstan were approved by the government back in 2009. According to these standards, each resident must consume 9 types of food products monthly.
The established list includes: 9 kilograms of bakery products, 5 kilograms of meat, 8.2 kilograms of potatoes, 9 kilograms of vegetables, 10 kilograms of fruits and berries, 2 kilograms of sugar, 17 liters of milk, 1 liter of vegetable oil, 4 eggs, 100 grams of fish and fish products, and 200 grams of tea.

Based on the minimum standards, we calculated the cost of the consumer basket for a family of four, based on prices in one of the supermarkets in Bishkek. Recently, many city residents are increasingly shopping in large stores.
Of course, the calculations for food consumption are approximate and based on the approved state norms. Not everyone has the same food preferences, and different people may consume different amounts of products. Therefore, our basket should not be regarded as a universal truth. It is more of a social experiment by 24.kg.
Bakery products include both bread and pasta and cereals. Our family, representing an average household, prefers apples and bananas among fruits, and onions, carrots, peppers, cabbage, cucumbers, and tomatoes among vegetables. We do not add extra items, but choose only the essentials.
