Bishkek's grocery basket as of January 24. What has increased in price the most
In the past week, there has been an increase in prices for bread, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, carrots, apples, pears, and sugar in Bishkek. At the same time, products such as buckwheat, cucumbers, onions, cabbage, and bananas have become cheaper.

As a result, the cost of the minimum grocery set has increased by 210 soms, now totaling 6,932 soms.

We visit the same supermarket weekly to track prices for the same set of products. Below is the complete information on which items are included in our basket and why.
Prices in supermarkets and markets may vary. Stores often have promotional offers with reduced prices.
Analysis shows that since the beginning of our observation in late October 2018, the cost of the grocery basket has increased by 3,662 soms. Since the beginning of this year, it has risen by 209 soms, and compared to the same period in 2025, it has increased by 920 soms.
Bread remains the most affordable product in our basket. The cost of the basket is significantly influenced by fresh vegetables and fruits, which are the main factors in price changes.

In 2025, the cost of the grocery basket increased by 686 soms. The lowest price was recorded on October 18 — 5,791 soms, while the highest was on December 6 — 6,927 soms.

The nutritional standards for citizens of Kyrgyzstan were approved by the government back in 2009. According to these standards, each resident should consume 9 types of products monthly.

The established norm includes: 9 kilograms of bread products, 5 kilograms of meat, 8.2 kilograms of potatoes, 9 kilograms of vegetables, 10 kilograms of fruits and berries, 2 kilograms of sugar, 17 liters of milk, 1 liter of vegetable oil, 4 eggs, and 100 grams of fish, as well as 200 grams of tea.

Based on the minimum standards established by the state, we calculated the cost of the consumer basket for a family of four, based on prices in one of the supermarkets in Bishkek. There is a trend that many city residents prefer to shop in large stores.

Of course, the calculations are approximate and rely on state norms. Not all families have the same food preferences or the same amount of products consumed. Some may not eat meat, while others prefer to avoid sugar. Therefore, our basket should not be perceived as the ultimate truth. It is more of a social experiment from 24.kg.

Grain products include both bread and pasta and cereals. Our family is represented as average, so we prefer apples and bananas among fruits, and onions, carrots, peppers, cabbage, cucumbers, and tomatoes among vegetables. Our diet does not include excesses — only the essentials.
