The deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh approved the agreement on financing under the "One Health" program in the first reading. The main goal of this agreement is to prevent pandemics and support the resilience of food systems and ecosystems in Central Asia.
The agreement was signed between the Kyrgyz Republic and the International Development Association, as well as the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Food Processing Industry Janibek Kerimaliev reported that Kyrgyzstan will receive $30 million in the form of a loan and $1.79 million in the form of a grant under this project.
The provided loan will be valid for 50 years, including a 10-year grace period, and is offered at a zero interest rate. The final repayment date of the loan is scheduled for December 15, 2074.
Kerimaliev also noted that the project includes three key components.
- Combating zoonotic infections: focusing on monitoring animal diseases, developing new diagnostic and treatment methods, and raising awareness of the risks of transmission of infections from animals to humans.
- Preventing antimicrobial resistance: prudent use of antibiotics in veterinary medicine and healthcare, developing alternative treatment methods, and monitoring the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
- Ensuring food safety: improving sanitary conditions at all stages of production and processing, as well as enhancing product quality control.
