Kazakhstan Residents Are Being Massively Stripped of Their Driver's Licenses

In Kazakhstan, there is a tightening of control over the health status of drivers. Authorities have begun the process of revoking driver's licenses from citizens whose medical conditions prohibit them from driving. This initiative affects many people and has sparked active discussions among motorists, as reported by Lada.kz.

Inspection and its results

According to information from the Ministry of Health, as a result of the inspection, more than 1,700 driver's licenses were revoked for medical reasons. To identify such cases, the ministry, in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, conducted a large-scale data matching and verification of citizens on dispensary registration. A total of about 370,000 people were subjected to inspection.

The results were unexpected:

- 273,800 of those checked did not have driver's licenses;

- 96,000 had previously obtained licenses;

- 41,700 had their licenses revoked in advance;

- 54,400 continued to hold valid licenses despite having medical contraindications.

Thus, some drivers were effectively continuing to drive without legal grounds.

Judicial consequences

As of December 10, 2025, the judicial authorities registered 4,540 lawsuits from government structures. As a result of the proceedings:

- 1,787 licenses were revoked;

- these citizens were deemed incapable of operating vehicles due to medical reasons, making their actions illegal.

The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that these measures are aimed at increasing road safety and reducing the number of traffic accidents involving individuals with health restrictions.

Important for citizens of Kazakhstan

Revocation of driver's licenses is possible even after they have been issued if medical contraindications are identified. Anyone on dispensary registration is required to undergo regular medical examinations to maintain the validity of their license. Ignoring the prohibition on driving can lead to administrative or criminal liability.

Experts emphasize that transparency and regular checks of databases are an important step to ensure that only those drivers who are physically and mentally capable of safely operating vehicles are on the roads.
