Iran has created a 'safe' corridor for ships in the Strait of Hormuz

Iran has established a new maritime corridor, referred to as a "safe" corridor, for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. According to a report from Lloyd’s List, special permission from the authorities in Tehran is required to use this corridor.

In one instance, the operator of a tanker paid about 2 million dollars for the opportunity to pass through this strait.

Currently, several countries, including India, Iraq, Pakistan, Malaysia, and China, are negotiating with Iran about the possibilities of using this new route.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has developed a system for registering "approved" vessels that receive guarantees for safe passage.

According to available information, at least nine vessels have already utilized this corridor, passing through Iranian territorial waters near Larak Island, where ship identification takes place.

Each passage is currently coordinated individually; however, according to reports, the IRGC plans to formalize this procedure in the near future.
