Bolsonaro has been placed in the intensive care unit of a hospital in Brasília for treatment of pneumonia.
He has exhibited high fever, low blood oxygen levels, sweating, and chills. Tests revealed bronchopneumonia, likely caused by aspiration.
“Pneumonia in patients over 70 years old often has a severe course, as it can lead to sepsis when bacteria enter the bloodstream, which worsens the condition,” noted the doctor of the former president, Brazil Caído.
Jair Bolsonaro was convicted by the Federal Supreme Court of Brazil in September 2025 and is currently serving a 27-year sentence for attempting a coup. He has also been found guilty on several charges, including leading an armed criminal organization and attempting to violently overthrow the democratic order. Bolsonaro denies all charges against him.
