This weekend, the IAA Ice Climbing World Cup stage took place in Switzerland. The competition was held in Saas Fee, a ski resort located at an altitude of about 2000 meters in the Alps, which is famous for its history of hosting UIAA-sanctioned events since 2000. This was reported by MiddleAsianNews.

This season, 137 athletes from 19 countries participated in the competition, which is 13% more compared to last year, when the number of participants increased by 16%. This confirms the growing popularity and high level of preparation in this sport.

The competitions, including the European Championship, took place on Friday and consisted of qualification rounds in difficulty (in the "lead" position) and all speed competitions. On Saturday, the difficulty competitions concluded, attracting spectators to the spiral platform where they could closely observe the athletes' skills and techniques. This public support often inspires participants to achieve outstanding results on one of the largest walls of the World Tour.

In the speed competitions, a unified format was used, where athletes compete against the clock. In Saas Fee, remarkably fast ascents are observed, and in this category, Mongolian athlete Sélengé Nyamdoo became the World Cup holder.

The competition also featured world champion Aneta Loužecká (Czech Republic) and Catalina Shirley (USA), who were trying to improve their results from the first round, while the current World Tour champion Sélengé Nyamdoo aimed to win her first medal of the season.
