Fourth train accident in a week in Spain: train collided with a crane
As a result of the incident that occurred near the port of Cartagena, four people sustained minor injuries, according to emergency services in the Murcia region.
A representative of the emergency services in southeastern Spain reported to the agency that "the train remained on the tracks and did not derail."
Due to the accident, train traffic on the railway line between Cartagena and the village of Los Nietos was temporarily suspended.
This is already the fourth railway accident in Spain in the past week. The most serious incident occurred on January 19, when a high-speed train derailed in the province of Córdoba and collided with another train. As a result, 42 people died, including the driver of the oncoming train.
On Tuesday, January 20, another incident occurred: a suburban train derailed near Barcelona due to the collapse of a retaining wall amid heavy rain. In this incident, the driver was killed, and 37 people were injured, five of whom are in serious condition. It was also reported that there were three trainees in the cabin with the driver, who sustained serious injuries and are currently in intensive care.
On the same day, another regional train derailed due to a rock that fell onto the tracks, but in this case, there were no injuries.
In light of these events, Spain's largest train drivers' union, SEMAF, announced plans to declare a nationwide strike, demanding criminal accountability for those responsible for ensuring the safety of railway infrastructure.
