Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that the proposed change will logically complete the political structure that has been forming over the past several years. He explained that the establishment of the vice president institution and its constitutional enshrinement is an important step. According to the president, the vice president will be appointed with the consent of the parliament by a simple majority vote, and his powers will be determined by the president himself.
“The vice president, acting on behalf of the president, will represent Kazakhstan's interests on the international stage, as well as in parliament, interact with socio-political, scientific, and cultural organizations both within the country and abroad, and perform other tasks assigned by the president,” added Tokayev.
In this regard, a reduction of certain structures that support the functioning of the current parliament is planned, as well as the abolition of the position of state advisor.
“The structure of the presidential administration and its management will undergo reforms in accordance with real needs,” concluded Tokayev.
