Mongolia's Disaster Management Plan Revised and Approved
On January 14, the government adopted a new "National Plan for the Prevention and Rescue of the Population, Animals, and Property from Natural Disasters, Response to Them, and Early Warning Systems."
As noted by government representatives, this plan aims to improve the management and coordination of actions to reduce the risks of natural disasters and respond to them at all levels of government structure. It is intended to enhance readiness and responsiveness at both national and local levels, including ministries, agencies, the capital, as well as rural communities and districts, which will ensure a faster and more effective response to emergencies and recovery efforts.
As part of the new plan, actions in emergencies for various types of natural disasters will be reviewed, and management plans at the provincial, capital, rural community, and district levels will be updated and approved in accordance with overall national strategies.
The escalation of risks associated with climate change and human activity, including the increase in the number and intensity of epidemics, droughts, and floods, has become the main reason for revising the plan. Authorities emphasized that the updated version aims to reduce the social and economic damage caused by natural, climatic, and biological hazards, as well as to protect the health, lives, and livelihoods of the population.
